Kalam was born in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, in 1931. He studied physics and aerospace engineering at the Madras Institute of Technology and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). He went on to become a scientist at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), where he played a key role in the development of India’s space program.

In 1992, Kalam was appointed as the Scientific Adviser to the Defence Minister. He served in this position until 1999, when he was elected as the 11th President of India. Kalam served as President until 2007.

During his presidency, Kalam focused on promoting science and technology, as well as social welfare. He launched several initiatives to improve the lives of the poor and the marginalized. He also worked to promote peace and understanding between India and Pakistan.

Kalam died on July 27, 2015, at the age of 83. He was a national icon and his death was mourned by millions of people across India.
