On 26 July 2023, India celebrated Kargil Vijay Diwas, the anniversary of the Indian victory in the Kargil War. The war was fought between India and Pakistan from May to July 1999, in the Kargil district of Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Army successfully recaptured all the peaks that had been captured by Pakistani forces.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Ladakh on the eve of Kargil Vijay Diwas to commemorate the fallen soldiers. He laid a wreath at the Kargil War Memorial and addressed a gathering of soldiers and civilians.
“We are proud of the valour and sacrifice of our soldiers who fought in the Kargil War. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. Jai Hind!” said PM Modi in his address.
The Prime Minister also met with the families of the soldiers who were killed in the war. He assured them that the government would always be there for them.
Kargil Vijay Diwas is a day to remember the sacrifice of the Indian soldiers who fought in the Kargil War. It is also a day to reaffirm our commitment to national security.
