Ravindra Mahajani was a Marathi actor who made his mark in Hindi cinema. He was born in 1949 in Pune, Maharashtra, India. He started his acting career in Marathi theater and then moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in Hindi cinema.

Mahajani made her Hindi film debut in the 1972 film “Gharana”. He acted in several films, including “Satte Pe Satta” (1978), “Amar Akbar Anthony” (1977), and “Mr. Natwarlal” (1979). He was known for his versatility and ability to play a variety of characters.

Mahajani was also a successful television actor. He acted in the popular TV series, “Hum Log” (1984–1985), and “Khichdi” (2000–2004). He was also the recipient of the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian award.

Mahajani died on July 11, 2023 in Mumbai at the age of 74. He is survived by his wife and two sons.

Early life and career

Ravindra Mahajani was born on 1 March 1949 in Pune, Maharashtra, India. He was the son of a school teacher. Mahajani was interested in acting from a young age and started performing in plays at school. After graduating from college, he moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in Hindi cinema.

Mahajani made her Hindi film debut in the 1972 film “Gharana”. He played a supporting role in the film, which starred Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan. Mahajani’s performance in the film was well received and soon she started getting offers for other films.

Mahajani acted in several films, including “Satte Pe Satta” (1978), “Amar Akbar Anthony” (1977), and “Mr. Natwarlal” (1979). He was known for his versatility and ability to play a variety of characters. In “Satte Pe Satta”, he played the role of an ordinary man who is mistaken for a millionaire. In “Amar Akbar Anthony”, he played the role of a police officer who goes undercover as a gangster. And in “Mr. Natwarlal”, he played a thug who is always one step ahead of the law.

Mahajani was also a successful television actor. He acted in the popular TV series, “Hum Log” (1984–1985), and “Khichdi” (2000–2004). In “Hum Log”, he played the role of a man from a middle-class family. And in ‘Khichdi’, he played the role of a retired government official.


Awards and recognition

Mahajani was a recipient of the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award. He was also awarded the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for his performance in the film “Satte Pe Satta”.


Death

Ravindra Mahajani passed away in Mumbai on July 11, 2023, at the age of 74. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
