Ravichandran Ashwin Becomes First Indian to Take 1000 Test Wickets

Ravichandran Ashwin became the first Indian bowler to take 1000 Test wickets on Saturday, achieving the feat in the second Test against England in Birmingham. Ashwin dismissed England’s Joe Root for 31 to reach the milestone, becoming the 14th bowler overall to do so.

Ashwin is the second-fastest bowler to reach 1000 Test wickets, behind Muttiah Muralitharan. He took 219 innings to reach the milestone, while Muralitharan took 210 innings.

Ashwin is also the only Indian bowler to have taken 500 wickets in both Test and ODI cricket. 

He is currently the second-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket for India, behind Anil Kumble.
