Indian skipper Rohit Sharma smashed his fastest Test fifty in the first innings of the second Test against West Indies in Antigua on Sunday. Sharma reached his fifty off just 29 balls, breaking his previous record of 31 balls, which he set against Sri Lanka in 2017.

Sharma’s fifty was part of a 120-run partnership for the second wicket with Mayank Agarwal, who scored 56. The two batsmen helped India recover from a shaky start to reach 176 for 2 at the end of the day’s play.


Sharma started the day in aggressive fashion, hitting four boundaries in his first 10 balls. He reached his fifty with a six off Kemar Roach, and then continued to score freely. He brought up his century in the 45th over, off just 112 balls.

Sharma’s innings was a timely one for India, who were looking to bounce back after losing the first Test. He was particularly impressive against the short ball, which he dispatched with ease.
