25 killed after bus catches fire on Maharashtra highway

At least 25 people were killed and several others injured after a bus caught fire on a highway in Maharashtra on Wednesday, July 2, 2023. The bus was traveling from Nagpur to Pune when it caught fire near the town of Ahmednagar.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, but it is believed that it may have been caused by a short circuit. The bus was carrying around 50 passengers, and many of them were asleep when the fire started. The flames quickly spread through the bus, and many passengers were unable to escape.

The fire brigade arrived at the scene and was able to extinguish the flames, but by that time, it was too late for many of the passengers. The bodies of the victims have been taken to a local hospital for identification.

The accident has caused widespread shock and grief in Maharashtra. The state government has announced a compensation of Rs. 500,000 for the families of the victims.
