On February 5, 2024, the Vesuvius Challenge announced its winners, marking a monumental moment at the intersection of artificial intelligence and archaeology. The impressive grand prize of $700,000 was bestowed upon Youssef Nader, Luke Farritor, and Julian Schilliger for their outstanding work in deciphering ancient scrolls.
Youssef Nader, a biorobotics graduate student from Egypt based in Berlin, joined forces with Luke Farritor, a 21-year-old SpaceX intern and college student from Nebraska, and Julian Schilliger, a robotics student from Zurich, to form the winning team.
